Our Heritage is our Identity
تراثنا هويتنا
Our Heritage is our Identity تراثنا هويتنا is a community focused project working with residents across refugee camps in Lebanon. The aim of the collaboration is to capture, record and share the intangible heritage of these communities - records that are at risk of being lost as a result of conflict, displacement and time. The records will includes artefacts that link to the homelands (Palestine or Syria) of the community residents, and also explore how heritage has informed the current culture that has grown and developed in the camps.
The project seeks to work with any camp residents including the Palestinian and Syrian residents.
Intangible cultural heritage will include storytelling, cooking, songs, poetry, craft, costume, dance.
These will all be archived as digital records at the American University of Beirut and preserved for the future.
Swansea City Opera’s Lebanon Heritage Project is funded by the British Council’s Cultural Protection Fund, in partnership with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. The British Council’s £30m Cultural Protection Fund is set up to protect cultural heritage at risk due to conflict in the Middle East and North Africa
